About the Author

Robert Hager is an author and disability attorney who has spent much of his life finding creative ways to help children. In 1972, he co-founded Esperanza-The Outdoor School, a Piaget-based program for children from pre-school through fifth grade, which he directed through 1986. During that period, he also founded Kid’s Network, a coalition of Houston’ area recreation, child care, and enrichment service providers committed to advocacy for children. He also directed several “adventure playground” after-school programs that encouraged children to think for themselves and bring their ideas to life with hammers and nails. Then with Neal Sarahan he wrote about the experience in Where Do Children Play? On Adventure Playgrounds!
